How Acupuncture Works with our Buford & Norcross Acupuncturist
Acupuncture is a 3,000 year old system of medicine that restores the body's ability to heal itself. Originating in traditional Chinese medicine, it's been practiced around the world for centuries. Acupuncture has been documented by the National Institutes of Health, or NIH, as a safe and effective method for treating a wide range of conditions. Acupuncture is used today mainly for pain relief, but it's known to have a positive effect on a number of other medical problems.
Norcross & Buford Acupuncturist Explains Acupuncture
Acupuncture allows the body's self healing processes to begin by stimulating certain sites on the body known as acupuncture points or acupoints. The most common way to do this is to insert small sterile needles into the skin along certain specific channels. This helps to encourage proper blood circulation and encourages the body to release certain chemicals that help to reduce pain, relieve inflammation and increase the rate of healing.
Henry Park, our Norcross & Buford acupuncturist, will begin your acupuncture treatment by asking about your health history. He'll look at your tongue, feel your pulse and perform some other diagnostic examinations, if needed. This will give him all the information needed to create an individualized treatment plan. You'll lay comfortably on a treatment table while the procedure is done. Most patients feel little to no discomfort. You'll relax for five to 30 minutes with the needles left in place, in a state most patients report as very relaxed.
Some people experience immediate results from their first treatment, while others may need additional visits for chronic, long-term problems. Some of the conditions we commonly treat are:
- Headaches and migraines
- Joint pain and swelling from arthritis
- Controlling allergy symptoms, including dry eyes, itching and swelling
- Improving breathing function and capacity
- Naturally regulating hormones
- Strengthening the immune system
- Encouraging a healthy digestive system
